Sustainability, measured rather than asserted
Every figure on this page comes from measurement on our own blocks. Where we cannot measure something, we say so instead of modelling it and presenting the model as a result.
Current position
Where we are today
Figures cover the 2025 season and the 2026 season to date, across all experimental blocks at the Saint-Amand-les-Eaux site.
Detail
What sits behind each number
| Area | What we measure | Method | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Water efficiency | Applied volume per plot per season | Metered delivery, logged per application | Measured |
| Input reduction | Synthetic fertiliser and pesticide applied | Application log, all blocks | Measured |
| Circular economy | By-product mass diverted to on-site use | Weighed at intake | Measured |
| Soil carbon | Organic matter fraction in long-term block | Sampled annually, block LT01 | In progress |
| Biodiversity | Corridor area and pollinator observation | Mapped area; seasonal counts | Partial |
| Energy | Site electricity and fuel consumption | Meter and purchase records | Baseline year |
| Climate adaptation | Performance under heat and waterlogging events | Trial data correlated to weather log | Ongoing |
Position
Sustainability claims deserve the same scrutiny as product claims
Agricultural sustainability reporting has the same weakness as agricultural product data: most of it is generated by the party that benefits from a favourable number, using methods that are not disclosed.
We apply the standard we apply to client trials. Where a figure is measured, it says measured. Where it is partial or in a baseline year, it says so. Where we do not yet have a defensible number — site carbon balance, for instance — there is no number on this page rather than an estimate presented as a fact.
The research itself is the larger contribution. Reducing nitrogen application, replacing conventional protection with biological alternatives, extending soil organic matter and improving establishment so that fewer seeds are wasted — these are what the trial programme is largely about.

Testing a technology with a sustainability claim?
Environmental claims attract more scrutiny than performance claims, and increasingly carry legal exposure. Design the trial to defend the claim from the start.
